spring is in the air and so is my nose…… in search of tasty grubs. we didn’t have to go far in this town of well established eateries to come upon Longdoggers.
there are four locations and we ended up at satellite beach. what a welcoming porch, a large welcoming porch, with all of the accoutrements that say “surf’s up”. that being said, fish seemed like the way to go.
before i indulged, and read through the selections four times, i decided to start with some big kid food and ordered the corn dog nuggets. these hot delicious little treats, served with honey mustard, took me back to childhood summers by a swimming pool. simple and filling and nostalgic.
i have to admit, i ordered two main dishes as i couldn’t quite be satisfied with one alone. my taste buds have spring fever too. the fish and chips were outstanding! i’m picky about batter and was pleasantly surprised that this was a nice crunchy, non-greasy corn meal with overly generous portions of fish. i am also as picky about coleslaw. like barbecue, there are so many varieties, and some, not so good. this coleslaw, soooo good, crisp, fresh, not too much sweet or sourness.
for dessert, how about mango salsa grilled snapper tacos. yes please. it’s always refreshing to see creative versions of tacos. that’s the way it should be. the flavor was that of beautiful sunshine and surf all rolled into one.
the wait staff could not have been more attentive and came by often to check up and refill beverages (a huge gold star for me). it added the the overall vibe of this place, which is exactly the way a beach eatery should feel and taste.
longdoggers, you get a little gold grenade in lieu of an oscar!!
today we’ll be traveling to truly where the locals go, longdogger’s. a favorite of mine for years as well as the rest of our neighbors up and down the space coast. we’ll be visiting the satellite beach location for our well earned feast after our walk at gleason park.
shawna greeted us as we took a spot on the patio. So many selections from hotdogs and hamburgers to seafood dishes but after hearing from jennifer that one of the soups of the day was tomato basil i was sold. i got a cup but when i was at the bottom i wished i had gone for the bowl. Deliciously fresh with lots of basil, red pepper and topped with fresh grated parmesan cheese this soup will be a favorite of mine forever.
a grilled cheese would have gone perfectly with the soup but i have saved room…by getting the cup…for my favorite item on the menu, wings and hoops. the just right amount of homemade battered onion rings and extra crispy chicken wings with your choice of sauces…get ready…traditional hot-med-mild, dry rub roasted, garlic pepper, dry rub jerked, thai chili, jc’s garlic teriyaki, bbq and what i chose, teriyaki, served with carrots and celery and your choice of bleu cheese or ranch. i suggest the ranch to dunk the scrumptious onion rings in.
slice, the manager, really welcomed us and hooked us up with a lunch that’ll be hard to top.
longdogger’s serves several different draft and bottle beers as well as a selection of wine if your in the mood for some adult beverages. for the young…or young at heart…they keep a cooler full of different ice creams too!
thanks again slice and the rest of your crew for an amazing lunch right here in paradise!!
